About nominating
To stand as a candidate in a UTS election or to nominate someone as a candidate, you must:
- be eligible to stand or to nominate
- prepare your nomination using the appropriate nomination form
- submit your nomination during the nomination period
- include the endorsement of candidate and two eligible nominators
- (optional) ensure that a candidate statement is submitted during the nomination period.
The nomination period for an election is specified in the schedule for that election.
Nomination form
Nominations will only be accepted for candidates who have properly completed the appropriate nomination form for an election and submitted it within the required nomination period.
Nomination forms for each election are specified in the schedule for that election.
Eligibility
Your eligibility to nominate is based on the electorate for each election. In general:
- for staff elections, only full-time and fractional-time (but not casual) UTS staff are eligible to stand for election, nominate candidates and vote.
- for student elections, only UTS students who are enrolled in award courses are eligible to stand for election, nominate candidates and vote.
Electorates for an election are specified in the schedule for that election.
Endorsing a nomination
Each nomination requires the endorsement of eligible nominators (see Eligibility above). Generally, nominators must be from the same electorate as the candidate being nominated. See an election's schedule for full electorate information.
Candidate statement
If you are a candidate for an election, you may submit a statement of no more than 150 words.
A candidate statement should contain relevant information about the candidate, as the statements will be available for viewing by voters in each election. See UTS General Rule G3-25(7) for more information about candidate statements in UTS elections.
Candidate statements must be submitted by the date specified for each election.
Statements are checked by the Returning Officer (or a person appointed by the Returning Officer) to ensure they meet the 150-word limit and contain no offensive, defamatory or obviously inaccurate material. Where a statement does not comply with these conditions, the candidate will be required to revise their statement before it is accepted and made available for viewing by voters.
Conduct
The behaviour of candidates and their representatives should meet expected standards of conduct, outlined in the Code of Conduct for UTS Elections.
Further information
Further information about each committee or board, such as terms of reference, frequency of meeting and membership, are made available in the schedule for each election.
