Graduate Research School Board — special election of staff

This is the schedule for the election to fill staff positions on the Graduate Research School Board.

The schedule specifies the term of office, electorate, dates for nominations and ballots, Returning Officer and election rules. It also includes the nomination form that should be used to nominate as a candidate in this election, and information about Graduate Research School Board.

For the election of

Academic staff who have academic responsibility for graduate research matters at a faculty level (with no more than one from any one faculty or unit) 5 positions
Academic HDR supervisors (level D or E) (must include one to represent Engineering and IT, Health, Science; one to represent Business, Design and Society, Law; and one to represent ISF, TD School, CIC) 3 positions

Term of office

Date of declaration until 31 December 2027 or 31 December 2028 (determined by drawing lots)

Electorate

Academic staff who have academic responsibility for graduate research matters at a faculty level

Any academic staff member (continuing or fixed-term) who has academic responsibility for graduate research matters at a faculty level can stand as a candidate, nominate candidates and vote for staff positions (Rule G3-22(1)(h)).

Restriction

No more than one from any one faculty or unit.

Academic HDR supervisors (level D or E) (must include one to represent Engineering and IT, Health, Science; one to represent Business, Design and Society, Law; and one to represent ISF, TD School, CIC)

Any academic staff member (continuing or fixed-term) at level D or E who holds the title of HDR supervisor can stand as a candidate, nominate candidates and vote for staff positions in their respective cohort (Rule G3-22(1)(h)).

Per the board’s composition, the cohorts are:

  • Faculty of Engineering and IT, Faculty of Health and Faculty of Science
  • UTS Business School, Faculty of Design and Society and Faculty of Law
  • Institute for Sustainable Futures, TD School and Connected Intelligence Centre.

A ballot is required if more valid nominations are received than positions vacant. Ballots will take place in UTS: Elections Online Polling Booth.

The names of candidates and candidate statements will be made available in voting before the ballot opens.

Conduct

Participants in elections (candidates, their representatives and voters) are expected to follow the same high standard of conduct and behaviour during the campaign process as is expected on campus generally. The behaviour of election candidates and their representatives should meet expected standards of conduct. See Code of Conduct for UTS Elections.

Results

The results of these elections will be made available in results around two weeks after close of voting, following the declaration of poll by the Returning Officer (Rule G3-36(3) and (4)).

About Graduate Research School Board

Terms of reference Refer Graduate Research School Board.
Number of meetings Minimum of 4 scheduled meetings per year.
Composition The board consists of ex officio members, elected staff members and elected student members.
Membership The length of board membership will be 2 years for staff and 1 year for students. (Note: Since these elections are being held partway through the year, the terms of office will be 29 months and 41 months for staff and 17 months for students).
