Schedule: UniSuper Consultative Committee — election of staff

This is the schedule for the election to fill staff positions on UniSuper Consultative Committee.

The schedule specifies the term of office, electorate, dates for nominations and ballots, Returning Officer and election rules. It also includes the nomination form that should be used to nominate as a candidate in this election, and information about UniSuper Consultative Committee.

Professional (non-academic) staff 1 position

Term of office

4 years to approximately 31 March 2028.

Declaration of election to "...until the conclusion of the election held on or about the fourth anniversary of the effective date of their most recent election to the Consultative Committee".

Electorate

Academic staff

Any university academic staff member who is entitled to benefits under the Defined Benefit Division or who is a Division C14 member of UniSuper* at the close of nominations can stand as a candidate, nominate candidates and vote in this election.

The UniSuper Consolidated Trust Deed (May 2022) (PDF) states that academic representatives on the Consultative Committee shall be elected by the academic staff of the university who are UniSuper members.

Professional (non-academic) staff

Any university professional (non-academic) staff member who is entitled to benefits under the Defined Benefit Divison or who is a Division C14 member of UniSuper* at the close of nominations can stand as a candidate, nominate candidates and vote in this election.

The UniSuper Consolidated Trust Deed (May 2022) (PDF) states that professional (non-academic) representatives on the Consultative Committee shall be elected by the non-academic staff of the university who are UniSuper members.

A ballot is required if more valid nominations are received than positions vacant. Ballots will take place in UTS: Elections Online Polling Booth.

The names of candidates and candidate statements will be made available in voting before the ballot opens.

Election rules

The UniSuper Consolidated Trust Deed (May 2022) and fact sheet state that each university is free to follow its own protocols for the holding of elections. UTS will run these elections in accordance with the UTS General Rules for Election, Section G3.

Conduct

Participants in elections (candidates, their representatives and voters) are expected to follow the same high standard of conduct and behaviour during the campaign process as is expected on campus generally. The behaviour of election candidates and their representatives should meet expected standards of conduct. See Code of Conduct for UTS Elections.

Results

The results of these elections will be made available in results around two weeks after close of voting, following the declaration of poll by the Returning Officer (Rule G3-36(3) and (4)).

About UniSuper Consultative Committee

Number of meetings The UniSuper Consultative Committee may determine the basis on which meetings are to be conducted. Previously there has been one meeting per year.

Composition

The composition of the UniSuper consultative committee is UniSuper members entitled to benefits under the Defined Benefit Division or who are Division C14 members. These people are nominated, appointed or elected by the Employer, academic staff or professional (non-academic) staff. The number of representatives per Employer is based on the Employer’s number of UniSuper members.

Section 9.1 (a) of the UniSuper Consolidated Trust Deed (May 2022) (PDF) is applicable to UTS. The Deed identifies that the Consultative Committee for ‘the Employer’ type such as UTS consists of four persons:

  • two persons representing the Employer appointed by the controlling body of the Employer
  • one person nominated, elected and representing the academic staff of the Employer
  • one person nominated, elected and representing the non-academic staff of the Employer.
