This is the schedule for the election to fill academic staff positions on Promotion Committee.

The schedule specifies the term of office, electorate, dates for nominations and ballots, Returning Officer and election rules. It also includes the nomination form that should be used to nominate as a candidate in this election, and information about Promotion Committee.

For the election of

Professors 4 positions (2 male, 2 female)
Associate Professors 4 positions (2 male, 2 female)
Senior Lecturers 4 positions (2 male, 2 female)

Term of office

Three years: 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2027

Electorate

Professors Any academic staff member (continuing or fixed-term) holding the position of 'Professor' can stand as a candidate (Rule G3-22(1)(h)).
Associate Professors Any academic staff member (continuing or fixed-term) holding the position of 'Associate Professor' can stand as a candidate (Rule G3-22(1)(h)).
Senior Lecturers Any academic staff member (continuing or fixed-term) holding the position of 'Senior Lecturer' can stand as a candidate (Rule G3-22(1)(h)).

Restrictions

Only members of the 2025 Academic Board are eligible to nominate candidates and to vote. A list of the 2025 Academic Board members can be found here.

Deans are not eligible to stand as a candidate.

  • Open Thursday 10 October 2024
  • Close at 3pm Thursday 24 October 2024

Ballots

  • Open Thursday 7 November 2024
  • Close at 3pm Thursday 21 November 2024

A ballot is required if more valid nominations are received than positions vacant. Ballots will take place in UTS: Elections Online Polling Booth.

The names of candidates and candidate statements will be made available in voting before the ballot opens.

Conduct

Participants in elections (candidates, their representatives and voters) are expected to follow the same high standard of conduct and behaviour during the campaign process as is expected on campus generally. The behaviour of election candidates and their representatives should meet expected standards of conduct. See Code of Conduct for UTS Elections.

Results

The results of these elections will be made available in results around two weeks after close of voting, following the declaration of poll by the Returning Officer (Rule G3-36(3) and (4)).

About Promotion Committee

Terms of reference The committee considers the suitability for promotion at each level (senior lecturer, associate professor and professor). For more information, visit the Academic Promotion Policy.
Number of meetings The committee meets as and when required. The members for each committee are selected from a pool of 12 elected academic staff.
Composition

12 academic staff that comprise a pool from which the Promotion Committee Chairs select members for each Committee, each year. Such staff are not necessarily members of Academic Board. The pool to comprise:

  • 4 professors, 2 male and 2 female
  • 4 associate professors, 2 male and 2 female, and
  • 4 senior lecturers, 2 male and 2 female.
Deans will not be eligible to accept nomination for election by Academic Board.
