Schedule: ActivateUTS Board — election of student directors

This is the schedule for the election to fill student director positions on ActivateUTS Board.

The schedule specifies the term of office, electorate, dates for nominations and ballot, Returning Officer and election rules. It also includes the nomination form that should be used to nominate as a candidate in this election, and information about ActivateUTS Board.

For the election of

Student directors 3 positions (at least 1 must be filled by female students)

Note: Of the 3 student director positions available in odd-numbered years, female students must fill at least 1 position (ActivateUTS Constitution 2017, clause 15.3(b) (PDF 527KB)).

Term of office

Two years: 7 October 2025 to 6 October 2027

Electorate

Students enrolled in any award course at the university (minimum one year full-time or equivalent duration) can stand as a candidate, nominate candidates and vote in this election (Rule G3-22(1)(d); ActivateUTS Constitution 2017, clause 1.2 and 16.1 (PDF 527KB)).

Restriction

Students (undergraduate, postgraduate coursework and postgraduate research students) who are also members of academic or professional staff of the university (continuing or fixed-term) are not entitled to stand as candidates, nominate candidates or vote in this election (Rule G3-22(2)).

Important information

Successful candidates must obtain a director ID before commencing their term of office on 7 October 2025. Further information is available at ASIC New ID requirement for directors.

Nominations

  • Open Tuesday 5 August 2025
  • Close at 3pm Tuesday 19 August 2025

Ballot

  • Open Tuesday 9 September 2025
  • Close at 3pm Tuesday 16 September 2025

A ballot is required if more valid nominations are received than positions vacant. Ballots will take place in UTS: Elections Online Polling Booth.

The names of candidates and candidate statements will be made available in voting before the ballot opens.

Conduct

Participants in elections (candidates, their representatives and voters) are expected to follow the same high standard of conduct and behaviour during the campaign process as is expected on campus generally. The behaviour of election candidates and their representatives should meet expected standards of conduct. See Code of Conduct for UTS Elections.

Results

The results of these elections will be made available in results around 2 weeks after close of voting, following the declaration of poll by the Returning Officer (Rule G3-36(3) and (4)).

About ActivateUTS Board

Terms of reference

It is the mission of ActivateUTS to 'enrich the UTS community'.

The broad objectives of ActivateUTS are:

Without limiting the generality of the objectives stated above, ActivateUTS will:

  1. provide places for affiliated clubs, ActivateUTS sanctioned activities, programs and events, for the UTS community
  2. organise, assist and subsidise sporting, social and cultural clubs and societies and programs for the UTS community
  3. provide food, beverage and other support services for the UTS community
  4. provide personal and professional development opportunities for students of UTS, and

Number of meetings The board meets 7 times per calendar year, currently in the months of February, March, April, June, August, October and November.
Composition

The board consists of university-appointed members and elected student members (ActivateUTS Constitution, clauses 8.2.1 and 16.7) (PDF 527KB):

  • Chair (appointed by UTS Council)
  • Treasurer (appointed by UTS Council)
  • 1 other director (appointed by UTS Council)
  • 2 staff directors (appointed by UTS Council from amongst the staff of the university)
  • 7 student directors, 4 elected in even years and 3 in odd years (elected by and from UTS students)
  • Chief Executive Officer of ActivateUTS
Membership The membership term for student directors will be 2 years.
